Book release: “Künstliche Intelligenz: Was steckt hinter der Technologie der Zukunft?”

A clearer perspective on the subject of AI: Scientists at Fraunhofer IAIS provide application examples and technical expertise in comprehensible language.

In their new book “Künstliche Intelligenz: Was steckt hinter der Technologie der Zukunft?”, Dr. Dirk Hecker, scientific director of KI.NRW and deputy director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS, and Dr. Gerhard Paaß, also of Fraunhofer IAIS, provide an extensive insight into the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). In comprehensible language, the authors convey technical expertise and use numerous examples to show where AI is being used in business and society. The book is addressed to anyone who wants to familiarize themselves with the subject and is intended to enable decision-makers as well as interested laypersons to have a say in the design of intelligent systems. The book is published by Springer Vieweg.

About the Authors:

Dr. Gerhard Paaß holds a degree in mathematics and a doctorate in macroeconomics from the University of Bonn. His research focuses on neural networks, text mining, and statistics. As a scientist at the Society for Mathematics and Data Processing and group leader at Fraunhofer IAIS, he has been involved in numerous research and industrial projects on machine learning. In recent years, he has been primarily active as a lecturer in training courses for AI and deep neural networks.

Dr. Dirk Hecker is deputy director of Fraunhofer IAIS. He studied and received his PhD in geo-informatics at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn. Dirk Hecker has been involved in the transfer of digital technologies to business and society for many years. He is active in numerous directorates as well as steering committees of various nationwide AI initiatives. He is co-initiator and scientific director of the competence platform on Artificial Intelligence in North Rhine-Westphalia KI.NRW.
